Trillion Fund

A crowdfunding platform that helps people who have deposits with low returns to become investors in renewable energy. It is based on the premise that there is a trillion pounds deposited in UK banks earning less than the inflation rate, representing a loss in real terms. With this amount, there would be enough to finance enough clean and renewable energy to prevent global temperature from increasing by more than 2C, the limit beyond which the consequences of climate change may be irreversible according to the scientific consensus on the issue. However, due to changes in government policies, in 2015 it announced that the platform will not offer new loans until they have a clear view of the projects that may be available.

Impact indicators
  • In 2014, 14,000 users registered on the platform and it raised £1.6 million.
  • It has helped more than 20 projects to meet their funding goals, including the energy community of Brighton and Deepbridge Capital LLP.
