The objective of the Housing and Empowerment for Roma (HERO) Project is to test an innovative social investment model to combat the socio-economic exclusion of marginalized groups, such as Roma. The model consists of measures that support access to housing and employment; combining microloans for self-construction with initiatives for the development of skills for life and work.
The pilot project is carried out in municipalities in Slovakia and Romania with the strategic support of UpSocial, with a view to developing a scalable model. Added to this strategic role, UpSocial will support the design and development of social innovation projects at the local level to foster community cohesion.
The project is financed by the European Parliament, implemented by the European Commission and the Development Bank of the Council of Europe.
