How can we increase the employability of people with disabilities?

Location

Employability refers to a person's capability for gaining and maintaining employment in the labour market. As such employability is affected by both supply-side and demand-side factors. This research seeks to investigate proven innovations that address the challenge from these two dimensions.

This call searches for proven innovations that enable people with disabilities to access jobs in the unprotected labour market. Innovations may be related to the development of special skills, attitudes and knowledge that would enable them to access (a) traditional jobs or (b) newly created jobs that take the most out of their special abilities. They can also be innovations around mechanisms to achieve and maintain a job, initiate a business, etc..

Business initiatives promoting the employment of people with disabilities find very favourable legislation in Spain. All companies with more than 50 employees in Spain must have at least 2% of people with disabilities in their staff. If they are unable to hire them, there are alternative methods through the hiring of providers that do have people with disabilities on their staff. Furthermore, there are significant tax incentives that may represent up to 100% of the business fees.
